Graduated in Law in 1988 by the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra. He has a Masters degree in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra (Juridical and Civil Sciences) since 1993. He holds a PhD in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra (Juridical-Business Sciences) since 2006. Professor at the Law Faculty of University of Coimbra, University Lusíada do Porto and Faculties of Law in Spain, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique and Macao.
Author of about 125 publications (among monographs, chapters in collective works, periodicals, prefaces, translations, articles in newspapers). Judge-arbitrator in pharmaceutical patent litigation and contract law. Jurisconsult. Member of the two Commissions of Civil Procedure (constituted between 2009 and 2011) that led to the approval of the new Code of Civil Procedure. Legal Adviser. Member of the Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra since 2009. He is a member of the Panel of Arbitrators of the Arbitration Center of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ARBITRARE and CONCORDIA. Member of the Advisory Council of the Unified Patent Court, since March 2017, by appointment of the Minister of Justice. Member of the Editorial Board of several legal magazines in Portugal and Brazil. Member of several scientific institutions, namely, Center for Family Law and Minors, Coimbra; Center for Biomedical Law, Coimbra; Portuguese Association of Intellectual Law, Lisbon; Center for Notary and Registries Studies, Coimbra.
